The issues of biodiversity and issues cultural diversity are directly related. They are related in the way that the building of cultures is dependent on their surroundings. They are dependent on their surroundings because a culture that is started in the Andes mountains is going to be different from a culture in Sub-Saharan Africa based on the weather, plants, and animals around them because it shapes how they live their entire lives. The issues in biodiversity such as the loss of different species is related to the loss of language like Wade Davis said in his lecture because people simply are giving up on extending the education are caring about the species and languages. The government should not be actively involved in protecting culturally diversity because if we know from any slice of history it is that governments are really good at ruining peoples who do not totally agree with them and are really good at making cultures uproot themselves which is the opposite of protecting cultural diversity.
Wade Davis talked a lot about cultures relying and being developed by the biodiversity in their areas of origin. One example of the two being related is that children living in the Andes Mountains believed that those mountains were spiritual and related to deities, where as in Montana a child growing up would think that mountains were just piles of rocks. This shows how different cultures view similar things around them and can come up with different ideas based on education and the entire culture’s views. Another example was the peoples who use plants in their areas as medicine or drugs and these greatly impact the cultures because it impacts how things are seen especially if the drugs are hallucinogenic and how the culture develops medically based on these medicines they make.
My answer might be wrong because someone may think that cultures are similar and not impacted by their surroundings. They might think this because there are certain cultures that are found in different areas that believe in similar ideas. This is wrong because despite finding similarities in different cultures these cultures are still influenced by their surroundings as well as they influence their surroundings. People also might not agree with the idea that the government should not be involved because they think that the government can actually help fund different cultures and the protection of biodiversity. Yes, the government can fund the protection of biodiversity, however it is a known fact that the government cannot help in cultural diversity protection, this is known from the removal of Africans from their homes as well as moving Native Americans the reservations.
